Discovering the Fairy Doors of Putnam CT

Sometimes the best travel discoveries happen when you get off the main tourist trail. Putnam, Connecticut, is one of those places. Tucked into northeastern Connecticut’s Quiet Corner, Putnam feels a little out of the way. That makes it a perfect place to find something unusual.

And unusual is exactly what you will find along Main Street.

Putnam is home to a collection of tiny fairy doors hidden around downtown. They are easy to miss if you are not paying attention. Once you know they are there, though, the hunt becomes part of the fun.

These miniature doors appear outside local businesses and blend into the downtown landscape. Some feature colorful designs and creative themes. Others look like tiny entrances into another world. Sources have documented more than a dozen doors scattered around Main Street.

Walking around Putnam searching for fairy doors feels a little unusual. That is also what makes it so much fun. You find yourself looking down, checking corners, and examining places you might normally walk right past.

The fairy doors fit perfectly with Putnam's quirky personality. The town combines antique shops, galleries, restaurants, murals, and other unexpected attractions.

For some, this is exactly what makes road trips interesting. You do not always need a famous landmark. Sometimes the most memorable stops are the ones hiding in plain sight.

So, if you find yourself traveling through Connecticut, take a detour to Putnam. It is off the beaten path, a bit unusual, and maybe just a little magical.

One of my favorite parts of a road trip is finding places I never expected to love. The Crystal Shrine Grotto in Memphis is exactly that kind of stop. It's tucked away inside Memorial Park Cemetery, making it a true off-the-beaten-path discovery. 🌟 (Disclaimer: The information is from my research. I didn't visit here in person.) Step inside, and you'll find a peaceful cave sparkling with tons of quartz crystal. Beautiful scenes from the life of Jesus fill the grotto, while soft lighting and...
