Looking for a fascinating detour on your next road trip? And realized I’ve been within 40 miles of this one several times and never visited. ☹ Well, let’s get on with it! Wupatki is home to well-preserved ancient pueblos built by the Ancestral Puebloan people over 900 years ago. Wander through towering stone ruins and imagine life in this high desert landscape long before modern highways existed. 🏺🏛️ How did these communities thrive in such a harsh environment? What stories do the walls hold? 🤔🌞 The monument offers several easy hiking trails that take you past fascinating sites like the Wupatki Pueblo, Lomaki Pueblo, and the colorful Wukoki Pueblo. Along the way, keep an eye out for desert wildlife and vibrant wildflowers! 🦅🌸 Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just curious about the past, Wupatki National Monument is a must-see stop near Route 66 and Flagstaff. I’m spending two nights in Huntsville, but by the time you read this, I’ll likely be in Nashville. On Day 13, I spent much of the day at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.
