Explore Ancient Mysteries at Wupatki National Monument 🌵🏜️✨

Looking for a fascinating detour on your next road trip? Just a short drive from Flagstaff, Arizona, and right near historic Route 66, you’ll find the captivating Wupatki National Monument—a place where ancient history and desert beauty come together! 🛣️🗺️👀

As I report about places in each US state, this is one of the most historical places in Arizona. And realized I’ve been within 40 miles of this one several times and never visited. ☹ Well, let’s get on with it!

Wupatki is home to well-preserved ancient pueblos built by the Ancestral Puebloan people over 900 years ago. Wander through towering stone ruins and imagine life in this high desert landscape long before modern highways existed. 🏺🏛️ How did these communities thrive in such a harsh environment? What stories do the walls hold? 🤔🌞

The monument offers several easy hiking trails that take you past fascinating sites like the Wupatki Pueblo, Lomaki Pueblo, and the colorful Wukoki Pueblo. Along the way, keep an eye out for desert wildlife and vibrant wildflowers! 🦅🌸

Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just curious about the past, Wupatki National Monument is a must-see stop near Route 66 and Flagstaff. Ready to uncover some ancient secrets? Pack your curiosity and hit the trail! 🎒🔍

And that completes Arizona in my several-year quest to write about ten or so places in every state. Or at least my original list! But, I’ll always find more in Arizona and many other states! 😊

I’m spending two nights in Huntsville, but by the time you read this, I’ll likely be in Nashville. On Day 13, I spent much of the day at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. I did check out the Huntsville Botanical Gardens at day’s end. Oh, by the way. Here’s the link to the preview post about this trip. US Space & Rocket Center The museum is extremely well done. Two of my four stops weren’t open! ☹ And the visitor center was closed on the third one. More ☹ However, Horseshow Bend made up for some of it! And Little River Canyon’s scenic drive was likely what I was going to see, even if the visitor center had been open. Oh, by the way. Here’s the link to the preview post about this trip.
