I Went to Hell and Back — And for a While, I Was Running the Place

Today took me across Michigan with several very different stops. I started with a drive through Detroit, then visited The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn. From there, I headed to Lansing for the Michigan State Capitol. I finished my sightseeing with a stop connected to the North Country National Scenic Trail. It was another day of history, highways, and adding experiences to my continuing quest to visit all 50 states for the third time.

But the stop I’ll probably remember most was Hell, Michigan. I visited Go to Hell, Michigan, where I met the woman who bought the store about two months ago. She’s cleaning, repainting, and bringing in new tourist merchandise. We had a fun conversation, and somehow I ended up being named Hell’s Mayor of the Day. So I can officially say I went to Hell and back—and for a little while, I was running the place! #GoToHellMI

Thanks for following. I'll give a more complete summary of the full trip on my regular Tuesday newsletter.

I worked in Canada about 20 years ago, so stopping at “Timmy’s” brought back some memories. Apparently, my road trip through American history needed a little Canadian coffee-shop history first! Then it was time to get moving. Stop #1 — A Long Drive and a Ferry Surprise My next major destination was Perry’s Victory and International Peace...
