Exploring California’s Scenic 17-Mile Drive 🚗🌊🌲 The 17-Mile Drive winds through the beautiful Monterey Peninsula, weaving past dramatic coastline views and the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links. ⛳🌅 It’s a private road with a fee of about $12 per car, but worth every penny. While you can complete the drive in about an hour, I recommend taking at least three hours to stop for photos, enjoy the scenery, and soak in the natural beauty. 📸✨ My wife and I recently returned from a week in California, spending most of our time in Monterey. To our surprise, the 17-Mile Drive turned out to be the highlight of the trip! Here are a few snapshots from along the way: On this trip, we also explored the charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea 🏘️, the rugged coastline of Big Sur 🌉, and even made time for Pinnacles National Park 🏞️. To wrap things up, we visited Alcatraz Island ⛓️, once a federal prison and now one of San Francisco’s most popular attractions. I’ll be sharing more about that in my premium subscriber newsletter later this week. Oh, and a quick milestone 🎉—last week I published my 500th newsletter! Since 2001, I’ve been sending out two each week, and it’s been a joy sharing the seemingly endless places to explore across the U.S. 🇺🇸✈️ "If I only had one more round of golf to play, I’d play it at Pebble Beach” – Jack Nicklaus, famous pro golfer Classic Rock song: "Monterey” by Eric Burdon & The Animals Please email me about your California experiences or why you don’t want go there! While South Dakota may be the best for some, “best” really depends on what you want to see or do. Or as they say, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” 👀✨ I’m planning to write posts about each state eventually, starting with a road trip through South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. That’ll give me plenty of chances to dive deeper into South Dakota’s gems! 🚗🗺️ The Black Hills in western South Dakota offer incredible vacation attractions. Sure, Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse...
A couple of years ago, you may remember (if you stayed around that long!) a series ten about state fairs in the US in this newsletter. The top three were Minnesota, Texas, and Iowa. The list didn’t include Alaska, but recent reading found their state fair unique! So, here goes! If you’re planning a trip to Alaska, make sure to time it with the Alaska State Fair in Palmer—because this isn’t your average fair! 🎟️🐮 Located about an hour from Anchorage, the fair runs from late August through...
