If you are a “Fifty Stater,” you’ll find yourself wondering about that! Today’s newsletter comes from direct personal experience. I visited Fargo this past weekend. I have a daughter and three adult grandchildren there. I make it there three or four times a year to see them. As those who plan to visit all 50 states know, North Dakota is often one of the last states to visit. The Fargo-Moorhead Visitor Center team developed the “Best for Last Club” for anyone visiting North Dakota. They give you a t-shirt and a certificate proclaiming your accomplishment. You’ll be able to obtain tons of information on what to see and do in Fargo and in the rest of the state. However, you don’t have to plan to visit all 50; Fargo and North Dakota make for a pleasant, enjoyable visit. And if you visit North Dakota but not Fargo, you can go online and indicate your accomplishment. They will send you the same gifts. Many visitors, for example, choose to visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the far west. And that’s a great choice, especially for those wanting to see all or most of the National Parks. By the way, on July 4th, 2026, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opens in Medora. That’s at the entrance to the South Unit of the park—another reason to visit Western North Dakota. Ok, it’s all yours to ponder! Here’s the link to a post about visiting North Dakota and taking a road trip starting in Fargo. The trip is shown as a loop around the state, beginning and ending in Fargo. So, you can “jump in” at any point and take in as much or as little as you wish. And if you want to visit in winter, keep in mind it gets COLD! Two of my four stops weren’t open! ☹ And the visitor center was closed on the third one. More ☹ However, Horseshow Bend made up for some of it! And Little River Canyon’s scenic drive was likely what I was going to see, even if the visitor center had been open. Oh, by the way. Here’s the link to the preview post about this trip. Yes, I visited six places today AND drove on a National Park-supported trail! Here’s a quick rundown and a few pictures to go with it. Too many to include pictures for every stop. Oh, by the way. Here’s the link to the preview post about this trip. Upon leaving Hattiesburg, MS, this morning, I set up my GPS for the places I wanted to see. I knew most of them were relatively quick stops. Hot Coffee, MS While traveling, I look for strange, odd, unusual places and objects. There actually is a...
So. What do they have in common? Typically, you would say hitting the beach at Normandy. Well, I didn’t hit that beach, but I did hit the beach in Gulfport, MS! Oh, not the same. Sorry, Normandy was necessary for the war effort. After “hitting the beach” at Gulfport, I decided I didn’t need to see much more beach. Ok, I’ll just drive on to Biloxi, not that far. When arriving in Biloxi, I saw a sign that said “Mobile – 60 miles.” Ok, that’s not very far, so I headed that way. About an hour...
