Discovering Cheyenne: The Magic City of the Plains! 🚂✨

Welcome to Cheyenne, the proud capital of Wyoming! Known as the "Magic City of the Plains," Cheyenne’s story began in 1867 when the Union Pacific Railroad first arrived. 🛤️ It grew so rapidly that it seemed to appear like magic overnight, quickly becoming a bustling hub of the Old West. When Wyoming achieved statehood in 1890, Cheyenne was the natural choice to serve as the state's capital. 🏛️

Today, Cheyenne is a beautiful blend of historic charm and modern energy. The centerpiece of the city is the stunning Wyoming State Capitol, a National Historic Landmark featuring a magnificent gold-leafed dome that shines across the horizon. 🏛️✨ Just steps away, you’ll find the historic Cheyenne Depot, a grand reminder of the city’s deep railroad roots. 🚉

But it’s not all politics and history! Cheyenne is world-famous for "Cheyenne Frontier Days," the world’s largest outdoor rodeo and Western celebration. 🐎🤠 Every July, the city transforms into a whirlwind of parades, concerts, and world-class rodeo action.

Whether you’re exploring the vibrant downtown "Big Boots" art trail or enjoying the peaceful High Plains scenery, Cheyenne remains the true heart of the Cowboy State. 👢🌾 Cheers to the spirit of the West! 🥂☀️

Wyoming is not often a highly visited state unless you are going to Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Parks, or skiing in the northwestern part of the state. Visiting Cheyenne provides a taste of the Old West and a gateway to the Rocky Mountains. While it’s not the smallest state capital, its metro population of 100,000 is nothing like Phoenix or Atlanta! However, it’s only about 50 miles from the “Front Range” of Colorado (80% of Colorado’s population from Fort Collins through Denver to Colorado Springs), and the people of Wyoming will welcome you!

"In Wyoming, the beauty of our mountains is matched only by the grit of our people.”

Classic Rock song: "Song of Wyoming” by John Denver

Featured Post: I don’t have a post about Wyoming, although I did spend time there on work trips around 1979 and into 1983. I have a trip tentatively planned to visit Yellowstone and Grand Teton, but no dates for it yet.

Here’s a post about Colorado, bordering Wyoming to the south.

Pack your bibs and put on your dancing shoes, because we’re heading to the heart of Acadiana! Deep in the misty, moss-draped lands of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, lives a resident who is a little bit "pinchier" than the rest. Welcome to the home of the Giant Crawfish Sculpture! 🦞⚜️ In the "Crawfish Capital of the World," the mudbugs aren't just a delicacy—they’re legendary. This oversized, crimson sentinel stands tall as a whimsical monument to the spirit of the swamp. With his massive claws and...

A a In the small town of Newbury, NH, a simple piece of roadside graffiti has become a legendary symbol of enduring love. 🌲💖 Along Route 103, a jagged stone outcropping bears a message that stops travelers in their tracks: "Chicken Farmer, I still love you." The legend began in the 70s or 80s (the legend is unclear), when a shy teenage boy, smitten with a girl who lived on the chicken farm across the street, painted "Chicken Farmer, I love you" on a rock. 🐔💌 Too nervous to speak to her in...
