Want to drive the longest road in the world?

The longest road in the world is called the Pan-American Highway!

The highway runs (unofficially) from Deadhorse, AK, to Ushuaia, Argentina. That’s from North America's northern-most drivable point to South America's southern-most drivable point!

It’s about 19,000 miles and passes through 14 countries. I considered this when looking for a comparison for my 8,900-mile road trip, which I completed about ten days ago.

The Pan-Am isn’t a specific road and isn’t officially recognized in the US and Canada. However, dedicated road trippers like me consider it. I’m not planning to take the route at my age, but I’d certainly like to talk to read the narrative from someone driving it.

If I had driven it straight through, my recent road trip would have run from Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean in Alaska into South America, or from Boston to Seattle, to San Diego, to Key West, and back to Boston.

No matter how you lay it out, it’s a lot of driving.

However, the Pan Am Highway does get some driving attention. People drive it because it’s there! The world record for driving it is 23 days, for bicycling 75 days and 17 hours, and for walking 2,426 days! By the way, I cannot verify how long each day is, and if the days are consecutive. They seem to reference walking x number of days per week and taking several weeks off.
