🚗 The Driveby Tourist Hits the Road Again!

The bags are almost packed, the route is planned, and another Driveby Tourist adventure is about to begin!

On September 10, I’ll hit the road for a 25-day (~+-) journey through the eastern United States. The All Fifty Club Conference in Philadelphia will be one of the trip’s highlights.

Of course, getting to Philadelphia is only part of the adventure.

I’ve planned stops at National Park Service sites, presidential locations, historic places, and a few unusual attractions. You know I have trouble driving past something interesting without stopping!

Along the way, I’ll visit places connected to Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, James Buchanan, and other presidents. Flight 93, Antietam, Harper's Ferry, and several lesser-known NPS sites are also on my list.

And there will almost certainly be some unexpected discoveries along the way. Those often become my favorite parts of a road trip.

This time, I’m doing something extra for readers who want to travel along with me.

My Patreon members will receive daily updates from the road. I’ll share where I went, what I found, and some behind-the-scenes moments from each day.

I’m also adding an extra newsletter during the trip to my regular newsletter schedule. That means even more Driveby Tourist stories will arrive while I’m traveling.

So, starting September 10, watch for plenty of road-trip adventures.

Twenty-five days. Thousands of miles. Lots of history. And probably a roadside surprise or two.

It’s almost time to hit the road! 🚗

In typical Driveby Tourist fashion, a trip that starts with one main purpose has quickly become something much bigger. On September 10, I’ll hit the road for Philadelphia and the All Fifty Conference. The conference is the official reason for the trip. Of course, that doesn’t mean I can simply drive there and back! 😄 Along the way, I’ll visit 13 additional states. Those states will count toward an even bigger personal goal: visiting all 50 states for the third time. Yes, you read that...

What happens when a road-trip junkie heads to Philadelphia for the All Fifty Club conference and decides to add twelve more states to the adventure? Well, apparently, I decided that visiting all 50 states twice wasn’t enough. So, I’m going for round three. Because once you’ve driven through all 50 states twice, the only logical thing to do is start over! 😄 I’ll be documenting this adventure almost daily on The Driveby Tourist Patreon page. You’ll get the stories, unexpected discoveries,...

Road trips have a funny way of taking us to places we never expected. In Baker, Montana, one of those stops involves a steer who was anything but ordinary. 🐂 Meet Steer Montana, the world’s largest steer on display at O'Fallon Historical Museum. He weighed an astonishing 3,980 pounds, stood nearly six feet tall, and measured more than 10 feet long. That’s one seriously large, beefy road-trip companion! 😄 Steer Montana was born near Baker in 1923. His owner, Jack Guth, became something of a...
