The Road East: History, Heroes & Unexpected Stops

The latest Driveby Tourist adventure is officially underway! I left home on September 10 and pointed the car east. The first day was mostly about putting miles behind me, including the always-interesting (?!) trip around Chicago.

After about 660 miles, I reached Perrysburg, Ohio, and called it a night. That long first day positioned me perfectly to start exploring the next morning.

🇺🇸 Presidential History in Ohio

Day two brought my first real sightseeing. I headed toward Canton and visited the First Ladies National Historic Site.

🏈 A Quick Pittsburgh Stop

Next came Pittsburgh and Acrisure Stadium, home of the Steelers.

Those who know me probably understand why this wasn't an extended visit. I'm not exactly a Steelers fan! I saw the stadium, took my picture, and kept going.

🍕 My First Scavenger Hunt Success

I finished the day in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. Dinner also gave me my first success in the scavenger hunt my daughters and grandkids created.

One challenge requires eating at a local pizza place. Sanso’s Pizzeria provided the answer, and the pizza was delicious!

Local Pizza: CHECK! 🍕✅

🚗 And We're Just Getting Started

Two days have already brought hundreds of miles, presidential history, football, and a scavenger-hunt victory.

Tomorrow brings another full day of exploring Pennsylvania. I'll have much more to share in the next newsletter.

Want the day-by-day version? I share the complete trip, plus additional photos, stops, and stories, with my Patreon members each day.

Flight 93 National Memorial was the most powerful stop of my Saturday, honoring the 40 passengers and crew who fought back on September 11, 2001. I’m sharing more about the experience, photos, and the rest of today’s journey with my Patreon members.

For everyone else, consider this the highlight reel. There are plenty more adventures on the road ahead!

The bags are almost packed, the route is planned, and another Driveby Tourist adventure is about to begin! On September 10, I’ll hit the road for a 25-day (~+-) journey through the eastern United States. The All Fifty Club Conference in Philadelphia will be one of the trip’s highlights. Of course, getting to Philadelphia is only part of the adventure. I’ve planned stops at National Park Service sites, presidential locations, historic places, and a few unusual attractions. You know I have...

In typical Driveby Tourist fashion, a trip that starts with one main purpose has quickly become something much bigger. On September 10, I’ll hit the road for Philadelphia and the All Fifty Conference. The conference is the official reason for the trip. Of course, that doesn’t mean I can simply drive there and back! 😄 Along the way, I’ll visit 13 additional states. Those states will count toward an even bigger personal goal: visiting all 50 states for the third time. Yes, you read that...

What happens when a road-trip junkie heads to Philadelphia for the All Fifty Club conference and decides to add twelve more states to the adventure? Well, apparently, I decided that visiting all 50 states twice wasn’t enough. So, I’m going for round three. Because once you’ve driven through all 50 states twice, the only logical thing to do is start over! 😄 I’ll be documenting this adventure almost daily on The Driveby Tourist Patreon page. You’ll get the stories, unexpected discoveries,...
